The workshop takes place in the Ryle Room at the
Kavli Institute for Cosmology Cambridge (KICC).
KICC is located on the west side of Cambridge, on the grounds of the
Institute of Astronomy (IoA), a short distance from the University's
West Cambridge site.

✈️ Getting to Cambridge
By Train
- From London King's Cross: direct trains to Cambridge (~50 min). Frequent service throughout the day.
- From London Liverpool Street: direct trains to Cambridge (~1 hr 20 min). Also frequent.
- From Cambridge station to KICC: taxi (~15 min, ~£12–15) or Stagecoach bus route 4 or Universal towards Madingley Road.
From London Airports
- London Stansted (STN): Direct train to Cambridge (~30 min). The most convenient airport for Cambridge.
- London Heathrow (LHR): Train to London Paddington / King's Cross, then train to Cambridge (~2 hr total). Or National Express coach direct to Cambridge (~3 hr, but no changes).
- London Gatwick (LGW): Train to London Bridge or King's Cross, then to Cambridge (~2.5 hr total).
- London Luton (LTN): Train to London St Pancras, then to Cambridge (~1.5 hr total). Luton Airport Parkway station is on the Thameslink line.
By Car
- Cambridge is accessible via the M11 motorway from London (exit J13 for west Cambridge).
- Parking in central Cambridge is very limited and expensive. KICC has limited visitor parking on-site; cycling from central accommodation is strongly preferred.
- Park & Ride sites are available on the main routes into Cambridge.
🚲 Getting Around Cambridge
KICC is on the west side of Cambridge, approximately 2 miles from the city centre.
- Walking: Cambridge is flat and very walkable. KICC is approx. 35–40 min on foot from the city centre via Northampton Street and Madingley Road.
- Bus: Stagecoach routes 4 and Universal connect the city centre with Madingley Road / KICC regularly.
- Taxi / rideshare: Uber operates in Cambridge; traditional black cabs are also available.
- Cycling: Several hire schemes operate in the city (e.g. Cycling City, independent hire shops on the main roads).

There is no block-booked accommodation for this workshop. Participants should
book independently. Options near KICC:
- Hyatt Centric Cambridge — 37 Eddington Avenue, ~10 min walk from KICC. This is our top recommendation for workshop participants.
- Hotel Felix — Whitehouse Lane, Huntingdon Road, ~10 min walk from KICC.
- The Graduate Cambridge — Granta Place, city centre.
- The Moller Hotel — Churchill College, Storey's Way, close to KICC.
🍽️ Meals & Dining

- Cambridge city centre (~30 min cycle) has an extensive range of restaurants, cafes, and pubs. The Lammas Land area (~10 min cycle from KICC) has several good local options.
- The IoA and KICC have a common room / coffee area available to participants.
🇬🇧 General Information
- Currency: British Pound Sterling (GBP). Cards are widely accepted everywhere in Cambridge.
- Time zone: BST (UTC+1) in July.
- Weather: July in Cambridge is generally warm (18–24°C) but changeable — a light waterproof layer is advisable.
- Visa: Participants from outside the UK/EU should check entry requirements for the United Kingdom well in advance. An invitation letter can be provided on request — contact Nikhil Sarin.
- Wi-Fi: Eduroam is available throughout KICC for participants with institutional accounts. Guest Wi-Fi will also be available.
- Emergency: UK emergency services — dial 999.
